Real Conversations / Language Exchange
My notes
Nothing replicates the pressure and unpredictability of a real conversation, and the online exchange communities can actually be more consistent than meeting people in person. If you're not in mainland China and don't have native-speaking friends, this is the most direct substitute. Consistency matters more than any single session — find a partner you can talk to regularly.
Nothing in a study resource fully replicates the moment when a native speaker says something you've never heard at a speed you're not prepared for and expects a coherent reply. I found online language exchange more consistent than in-person arrangements — partners showed up more reliably, and the pressure of performing for someone in real time was exactly the kind of uncomfortable practice I needed. The moments where I stumbled became my most targeted vocabulary objectives for the following week. Finding a regular partner and sticking to a schedule matters more than any single particularly good session.
