Free Chinese Reading Practice
My notes
One of the apps that lets you hold on a character to get the pinyin and meaning inline, which removes the friction of looking things up externally. The audio narration option with adjustable speed is useful for using the same content for both reading and listening practice. I found it especially good for getting reading speed up without losing comprehension.
The tap-to-lookup feature removed the main friction point that had previously made reading practice frustrating — having to switch between the text and a dictionary app. Audio narration at adjustable speed meant I could pair the same passage with listening practice at native speed and then again at 0.75x while following along. It became my default reading practice tool at the mid-to-upper HSK levels, and I noticed my reading speed improving measurably over about three weeks of consistent use. Free, with no registration required, which removes any barrier to starting.
