My notes

Great for building listening endurance, especially for longer stretches where you're tracking a narrative rather than isolated sentences. The main downside is that unknown vocabulary flies by and you have to make an active effort to pause and note things down — easy to get lazy with. More detail in the reading section.

Audiobooks trained my endurance for extended listening in a way that short clips couldn't. I'd listen during commutes and let unknown vocabulary fly past me, making note of any word I heard multiple times in quick succession on the assumption that it was common enough to learn. The discipline of not stopping every time you miss something is valuable in itself — the real test doesn't pause for you, and audiobooks helped me build the tolerance to keep parsing even when comprehension dipped. The trap is using them passively to the point where nothing is retained; stay active enough to notice recurring patterns.
